Nuendo is built on the same foundation as Cubase but with more post based features. Its become a household name among its users. Or that is my impression at least.Ī name that includes both products in one. On the other hand, I'd like to hear about game industry, because it seems to me that DAW choice is much more diverse there, and especially since most sound designers in games actually come from music composing background, where Cubase/Nuendo is king over PT. Working in Cubase/Nuendo requires that you have or build an ecosystem around you - friends that can help you out if deadlines arise, and a dub stage where you can take your work for someone to mix, or for you to mix it yourself. The only thing is, you don't have a surround panner, so you can't easily pan things from channel to channel. You'll eventually get the CPTK later - in the meantime, you can do a lot of surround sound design in vanilla PT. The advantage of Cubase for me seems to be that, apart from price and having the right level of features, if I ever wanted to handle all post I could transition to Nuendo more easily I guess?ĭanijel seems to be the man who knows about Nuendo around here, so wait and see if he replies because I'm sure he'll be able to help you much more in regards to Nuendo than I ever could.Haha, I'm a week-end Nuendo user compared to some of the folks here, but thanksįor me it comes down to this: if your dream is to ultimately go and work in Hollywood or other big movie industry center, go with ProTools 9 without any doubt. That's looking like the third choice for me. PT is the industry standard of course but Cubase looks a lot more user-friendly from my limited experience than Pro tools.

I'm going to answer my own question and say that Cubase is probably the one for the following reasons Nuendo looks great if you want to do all post yourself deliverable to any platform / format but i'm unlikely to do this for the moment. I want to keep price down, tight budget etc.

Post will be handled by clients at this stage.ģ. I don't need any of the more exotic tools like 10.1 etc, as long as I can produce well sync'd sound effects and music to video and mix in stereo and 5.1, i'm happy. I need something which can tightly sync to video, something that can use timecodes, easily create hit points etcĢ. I currently use Ableton and a bunch of video game integration tools, both useless or irrelevant for syncing to video obviously. I'm a video game sound designer / composer looking to branch out into doing sound for game cut scenes and potentially animation and film. However I guess the answer is very specific to the person ultimately so here are my requirements A lot of people are asking similar questions and I've searched the forum which has given me an idea. Firstly, apologies for what looks like a very familiar question.
